Abstract: The association of alcohol dependence with social phobia was confirmed as early as 1990 (Kushner, Sher). Subsequent studies have established that the co-occurrence rate between the two varies by the intensity of social phobia (Crum, Pratt, 2001) and its criteria (Lepine, Pelissolo, 1998). The research found that a variable associated with alcoholism, annual alcohol consumption, was significantly associated with the intensity and length of social phobia. Another variable, whether drinking is done deliberately to avoid social anxiety, is significantly associated with the intensity, length, and symptoms of social anxiety.
